The first bicycle wheels were from a horse drawn cart, made of wood using a metal band across the bicycle rim, very difficult and very uncomfortable to ride. Then the man called Dunlop (Scottish) invented the pneumatic tire, doing this along with Macadam (another Scot) inventing the tar road surface made cycling far more comfortable.
